The Career Guidance Unit (CGU) of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) has launched the initiative titled “SEUSL Alumni Diaries” to inspire and guide undergraduates in their academic and professional development. As a key support service in Sri Lankan state universities, the CGU plays an important role in helping students transition successfully from university to the world of work. The new programme connects distinguished SEUSL alumni with current students, providing a platform to share career journeys, professional insights, and practical guidance.
The inaugural session of the programme featured Dr.Navodi Jayarathne, an alumna of the Faculty of Engineering. Dr. Jayarathne belongs to the first batch of graduates from the Faculty of Engineering and completed her Bachelor of the Science of Engineering Honours in Civil Engineering in 2017. She is currently a Research Scientist in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Lyle School of Engineering, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, USA. Her expertise focuses on soil and unsaturated zone processes, with particular emphasis on applications within the oil and gas industry.
Dr. Jayarathne shared her journey from a Civil Engineering Graduate of SEUSL to a Scientist and Consultant in USA, inspiring nearly 150 undergraduates who attended the session. The event was held on 5th February 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and was hosted by the CGU Director, Dr. Ajith Thamboo.
Established in 1995, SEUSL has produced many outstanding graduates who have excelled in diverse fields both locally and internationally. Through the SEUSL Alumni Diaries programme, the CGU aims to continue inviting accomplished SEUSL alumni to motivate current students, support informed career decisions, and bridge the gap between academic study and employment.
