The ceremonial inauguration of the new Special Degree in BA in TESL (Teaching English as Second Language) was commenced at the Board Room of the Faculty of Arts, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka last week.
The ceremonial inaugural function of this Degree program presided over by the ELTU Head Dr. AMM Navaz was attended by the Vice Chancellor Prof. MMM.Najim.
Addressing the Deans, Heads of Departments, Academics and Non Academics, Staff of the English Language Teaching Unit, Prof. Najim said that English is an important Language in which all should concentrate and develop their language skill. He said that there was a time when teaching, studying and speaking English are considered as elite Society's language and the people come from ordinary class are not encouraged to study English. Now that this attitude is changed and English has been encouraged by the Educationalists.
Prof. Najim continuing further said that the inauguration of the Degree in BA in TESL is a well come move to up lift the standard of English as those who are absorbed here to impart the knowledge in schools. This would pave the way for an English environment and the staff engaged in this task should work sincerely he said.
Vice Chancellor also thanked the ELTU Head Dr. Navaz and his Staff for working in this regard tirelessly for this worthy course reality and assured that he would do all whatever possible for its quality and smooth. Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Culture M.L. Fouzul Ameer also spoke where Acting Registrar MI Nowfer and Deans, Heads of department were present.
At the conclusion of the Program Vice-Chancellor Prof Najim was presented with a memento by ELTU Head Dr. Navaz as a mark of remembrance of the day and the guests who graced the occasion were also presented with mementos.
