Events

The 16th Convocation of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) was held on February 10 and 11, 2024, at the Convocation Hall of the Oluvil Campus of the University.

The ceremonies were held under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor Professor A. Rameez Aboobucker and the administration of the Registrar Mr. M.I. Nawfer, and were presided over by University Chancellor and President's Counsel Dr. Faiz Mustafa.

First Day

The first session of the convocation was graced by the presence of Dr. Patrick McNamara, the new Executive Director of the American-Sri Lankan Fulbright Commission, as the guest speaker.

On the first day,

342 graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Culture

355 graduates from the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language

430 graduates from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Technology

received their degrees.

Awards

Faculty of Arts and Culture

Dr. M.L.A. The Cader Gold Medal for the Best Student in the Department of Political and Peace Studies in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Mohamed Ameer Maryam.

The Professor Kailasapathy Memorial Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Tamil in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Muhammed Ali Reeshaa Noor.

The Pulavar Mani Periya Thambi Pillai Memorial Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Hindu Culture in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Vanitha Udayakumar.

Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language

Dr. M. A. M. Shukri Memorial medal for the Best Student in the Department of Islamic Thought and Civilization in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Noorul Shifa Jabeer.

The Ismail Deen Marikkar Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Islamic Banking and Finance in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Zainul Abdeen Sajith.

Third Session

The third session was dedicated to the conferment of degrees on the students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Technology.

During this session, Dr. Thilakarathna Arachchige Piyasena was awarded an honorary doctorate on the recommendation of the Faculty of Technology.

Faculty of Applied Sciences

The Dr. M. H. M. Ashraf Memorial Prize for the Best Student in Science in the 2017/2018 academic year was awarded to Dinupama Samathi Hewage.

The Professor Sultanbawa Memorial Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Chemistry in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Wedanayake Philipullai Umesha Subunsari Wickramarathna.

Faculty of Engineering

The Prize for the Best Student in the Faculty of Engineering in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Mohamed Nushran Fathima Nifla.

The Best Student in the Department of Civil Engineering in the 2016/2017 academic year was also awarded to Mohamed Nushran Fathima Nifla.

The Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Disanayake Mudiyanselage Chathumi Sahan Arachchi Disanayaka.

The Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Shiyad Mufees Sahib.

On the second day of the convocation,

314 graduates from the Faculty of Management and Commerce

350 external graduates from the Faculty of Arts and Culture

361 external graduates from the Faculty of Management

received their degrees.

In total, 1441 internal graduates and 711 external graduates received degrees during the two-day convocation.

Fourth Session

In the fourth session, the following awards were presented:

The Al-Haj A.M. Ismail Memorial Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Commerce in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Junaideen Fathima Shana.

The Prize for the Best Student in the Department of Management in the 2016/2017 academic year was awarded to Mohamed Aliyar Fathima Jilsha.

The fifth and sixth convocation sessions were held for external students of Management, Commerce, and Arts,

The convocation was attended by members of the University Council, the Chairman of the Convocation Committee Professor M.B.M. Ismail, Deans, the Librarian, the Acting Bursar, Professors,Senior and Lecturers, administrative staff, media personnel, non-academic staff, and graduates with their parents and relatives.

A special feature of the convocation was the live webcast of the event, which was done through a specially designed website, https://www.seu.ac.lk/conv24/, under the direct supervision of the University's Media Unit.
