Language Department of South East University of Sri Lanka remembered Late Prof. Allama M.M. Uwais on his 20th Memorial Day at their Academic Program Centre in Mount Lavinia on Sunday

(26) by organizing a series of programs on the topic of "Islamic Tamil Literary Works in the path of Uwais"

Prof. Uwais, native of Panandura and a reputed Sri Lankan Muslim scholar, who is also a pioneer Researcher in Islamic Literature had authored more than 2000 books and published, is the first Professor to the Faculty of Tamil Literature in Madurai Kamaraj University in South India,

Vice chancellor of South East University - Prof.M.M.M. Najeem participated as chief-guest at the inaugural session chaired by the Head of Language Department of SEUSL Prof. Rameez Abdullah where Dean - FAC Fouzul Ameer and Former Member of the Legislative Assembly Kuthoos Hassen Ali delivered the congratulatory addresses. Former Head of Tamil Department of University of Peradeniya Prof.MA Nuhuman spoke on the theme of the topic.

Session I was chaired by Former Head , Department of Tamil Language, University of Peradeniya Prof. S.Thillainathan while the Director of Jamiya Naleemiya Dr. MA Shukri presided the Session II of the memorial day proceedings where Former Head of Language Department of Eastern University Prof.S.Yogarajah, Former Head of the Department of Philosophy Prof. MSM Anas, Former Head of Tamil department of Jaffna University Prof. A.Shanmugadas and Senior Lecturer Jamiya Naleemiya As-Sheikh SH.Faleel (Naleemi) delivered lectures on the stipulated topics.

The high lights of the program were the release of collections of articles written by various scholars about Prof. Uwais and the first copy of the book was handed over to Prof. Uwais's children in the evening session

Senior Lecturer of the Languages Department of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka Dr. K. Rahuparan delivered release address of the book launched while Head of Tamil Department Peradaniya University Prof.V.Maheswaran delivered the introductory address.

At the conclusion of the program a memento was presented to Late Prof.Uwais's sons Ahsan Uwais, Ajmal Uwais and daughter Nilofer Uwaize for his invaluable services rendered to the advancement of Tamil literary world.

A large number of University students, poets and writers too graced this ceremony.
