POSTGRADUATE UNIT-FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES

The Postgraduate Unit, Faculty of Applied Sciences (PGU/FAS), South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL) is one of the key Functional Units of FAS, which reviews and regulate matters relating to postgraduate study programs and makes recommendations to the Faculty Board for its approval. It deals with matters such as postgraduate course curricula and syllabi, selection of candidates to postgraduate study programs, admission of postgraduate students, progress monitoring of the registered students, assessment of the registered students and award of the postgraduate degrees subjected to senate recommendation, overseeing the development of policy, initiatives and resources to promote postgraduate opportunities, monitoring of research and industrial collaborations and, any other academic, administrative and financial matters relevant to the postgraduate study programs.
The PGU/FAS will be established with the formal recommendation in the Faculty Board of the FAS and approval from the University Senate and the Council.

OBJECTIVES
The main objective of the proposed PGU/FAS is to provide opportunity to high quality academic exposure, postgraduate research, research development activities and training to mould individuals with postgraduate qualifications and make them suit to the national and internal professional job market in different disciplines.


BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

The PGU/FAS shall have a Board of Management. The PGU/FAS-Board is the principal academic, administrative and financial authority of the PGU/FAS. However, functions of the PGU/FAS shall be subject to the general direction and control of the Faculty Board of the FAS, the university Senate and Council.

BOARD OF STUDIES

The Boards of Studies (BoS) are the main academic structures of the PGU/FAS. There are five BoS namely, Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences as approved by the Faculty Board, FAS, and the University Senate and the Council. Each BoS consists of a chairperson and three members. Basically, each BoS shall oversee all the academic programs (research degrees, taught courses, training programs etc.) offered by the respective BoS. The BoS are responsible for recommending candidates for postgraduate study programs subjected to the postgraduate bylaws of the FAS (Section 2) to the PGU/FAS-board and progress monitoring of registered postgraduate students through progress reports and other appropriate mechanisms as stipulated in the Postgraduate By laws (Sections 3 and 6) of the FAS.
