Functions of the Staff Development Centre

Specific functions that are to be carried out by the Staff Development Centre

Function 1

Design and conduct mandatory in-service, induction training programmes for all new recruits of academic and non-academic categories to ensure awareness of institutional arrangements, relevant acts, regulations, administrative procedures, ethics, personality development, and university culture.

Function 2

Design and conduct training programmes to improve teaching, training, and evaluation skills of academics using conventional and ICT-based methods.

Function 3

Provide training and advisory services to academics, departments, and faculties in curricular development, course material preparation, and intended learning outcomes.

Function 4

Provide training for all categories of staff to improve technical and professional skills in collaboration with HRDU and STC of UGC.

Function 5

Provide training to higher management, academic administrators, and executive staff in organizational management and institutional development, in collaboration with HRDU and STC of UGC.

Function 6

Conduct continuing educational programmes for all staff categories in liaison with Career Guidance Unit to improve soft skills, teamwork, etiquette, and commitment.

Function 7

Offer training in English and national languages (Sinhala and Tamil) in partnership with ELTU and Departments of Sinhala and Tamil Languages.

Function 8

Conduct IT literacy training programmes for all staff in collaboration with IT Centres.

Function 9

Arrange and coordinate tailor-made certificate/diploma courses based on staff needs in collaboration with specialized schools, units, and external centers.

Function 10

Undertake publications in university staff development and teaching & learning to be used internally and externally.

Function 11

Develop linkages with domestic and foreign universities and national/international organizations with similar objectives.

Function 12

Raise funds through domestic and foreign sources with University Council approval to carry out activities when internal resources are insufficient.

Function 13

Build a resource and information centre in key staff development areas including organizational management, leadership, educational technology, ICT-based learning, and other SDC core disciplines.
