The Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language (FIA) is one of the six Faculties of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka (SEUSL).


The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka was established as the South Eastern University College of Sri Lanka and commenced functioning from 27th July 1995. It was then upgraded to the status of the fully-fledged University. The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka from 15th May 1996. The other five faculties of the University are Faculty of Arts and Culture, Faculty of Management and Commerce, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Technology. Faculty of Applied Sciences is located at Sammanthurai and other five Faculties are located at the main site of the University at Oluvil.


The remarkable feature of the Faculty of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language (FIA) is that it was started with its academic work at the tenth anniversary of the university which was in 2005 with the objectives of offering degrees in Islamic Studies and Arabic Language. Additionally in view of the demands of the Graduate Services in the field of interdisciplinary studies, the faculty recognized the necessity of offering a special degree in Islamic Thought & Civilization, Islamic Banking & Finance, Islamic Law & legislation, Linguistic & Translation, Language and Literature


The Faculty of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language has two departments and one academic unit namely Department of Islamic Studies, Department of Arabic Language and Interdisciplinary Unit. The year 2013 marked a turning point in the history of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language. The restructuring plan resulted in the formation of a modern curriculum with interdisciplinary subjects, offering seven third main subject


To ensure the quality of our graduates, Faculty of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language has been maintaining linkage with the many foreign universities on exchanging of the services of expertise frequently. The Faculty of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language is considered a pioneer in initiating the latest research activities. The graduates of the Faculty of Islamic Studies & Arabic Language is highly able to face challenges in Sri Lanka locally as well as internationally. Our graduates are able to work in a local and international organization which tells the quality of our academic activities
