Several students, staff members, officers from the regional governmental organizations, and community members took part in the beach clean-up activity at Oluvil beach. The Wednesday, February first (01-02-2023) evening activity was a colorful event and the participants enthusiastically took part to clean a portion of the coastline that was behind the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. The massive beach clean-up exercise was organized jointly by the Faculty of Arts & Culture, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, with the collaboration of regional government organizations.

Under the patronage of Prof. A. Rameez, Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.M. Fazil, Dean, FAC, Dr. ACM. Hanas, Senior Lecturer in Economics and Statistics, and Dr. I.L. Mohamed Zahir, Coordinator, Community Outreach Activities, FAC, together with the District Disaster Management Unit, District Secretariat, Ampara, Divisional Secretariat, Addalaichenai, and Infantry Divisions (24 & 241)—SL Army—were the bridging partners of the two-hour event.

About 200 volunteers actively participated in the event. Apart from university community members, Mr. Jegadeesan, Additional District Secretary, Ampara, Mr. ACM. Riyaz, Assistant Director, District Disaster Management Unit, Ampara, Mr. MAC. Ahamed Shafi, Divisional Secretary, Addalachchenai, General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division- Brigadier Vipula Chandrasiri, Brigade Commander 241 Infantry Brigade - Colonel Dhanika Pathirathna, Commanding Officer 11 SLNG-Major Pubudu Hettiarachchi and Oluvil fishing community members participated on this historic event.

The main theme of the clean-up drive was Community Prosperity through Enrich Environment. Apart from beach clean-up, a tree planting event was initiated to plant 100 trees along the beach. Environmental economics students from the Faculty of Arts and Culture had a practical session to witness an activity-based environmental awareness programme.
