South Eastern University of Sri Lanka consists of nine academic departments. Each department consists of several units based on the number of subjects offered. There are 32 academic units in the entire university. The SEUSL conducts Bachelor's degree programmes, both General and Special, and many Diploma and Certificate courses. Some Bachelor's degree porgrammes are also offered as external degrees. At present, the SEUSL has about 2000 internal students and around 8000 external students.

Centre for External Degrees and Professional Learning

Centre for External degree Programme (Unit for External Degree) was started in 2004 with the objective of providing higher educational opportunities for candidates. This centre was renamed as 'Centre for External Degrees and Professional Learning' in 2011. This centre consists of three divisions namely registration & Examination, Learning & Resources and Training & Development. CEDPL is managed by Board of Management.

University Development Grants (UDG)/ External Degree Program (EDP) SEUSL project was officially started by signing contract document between Project Director/HETC Project and Vice Chancellor/SEUSL on 17.07.2012. This is a four year project and according to the agreement SLR 15 Million allocated for 4 years. UDG/EDP Grants will support to improve the curriculum, learning support systems and cooperation with partnering organization. The project consist of four activities which are


Activity 1. Improve Governance and Management

Activity 2. Improve Quality and Relevance

Activity 3. Enhance Learning Resources and Learner Support Services

Activity 4. Promote Collaboration with State and Non-state Training institutions


Each Activity consists the procurement of GOODS, WORKS, CONSULTANCIES and OTHER SERVICES.

The project has achieved 43% progress as at 31st of May 2014.

As specified in the Circular 931 of the University Grants Commission, Centre for External Degree and Professional Learning of SEUSL is taking measures to provide accreditation for State and non state training institutes. Hence, CEDPL invites self evaluation reports with regard to state and non state institutes for conducting training courses for external degree offered by the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. Having received the self evaluation reports from the institutes, a delegate of CEDPL of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka will pay a visit for a feasibility student on conducting the classes for external degree programs offered by South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
